Carnos
Carnos sells raw dog food direct to customers, with revenue coming through recurring subscriptions. As their WooCommerce development partner, we rebuilt the subscription engine for accuracy, replaced third-party tools with custom-built features, and turned the shopping, checkout and rewards experience into a system that converts and retains customers.

The challenge
A growing subscription business built on plugins that didn’t agree with each other.
Carnos runs on WooCommerce with WooCommerce Subscriptions, FunnelKit, a points and rewards program, and a long list of plugins added over time, some of them by a previous developer. Over the years these layers had started to conflict. Several pieces of code were calculating the same subscription discount in different ways, so renewal totals could drift. Reward points were being awarded on automatic renewals. Third-party widgets limited what the store could do, and standard WooCommerce approaches often failed because FunnelKit replaces the native cart and checkout.
Carnos needed a development team that could untangle the existing system, keep the store stable while it was being worked on, and build new features designed around how their customers actually buy.
What we built
A dependable subscription engine, plus custom tools that help customers find the right plan and stay subscribed.
Subscription accuracy. We audited the subscription logic and replaced more than a dozen overlapping discount functions with one clean calculation that runs once when each renewal is created. Renewal shipping and free-shipping thresholds are now calculated correctly. We also built an admin audit tool that compares every active subscription against the expected pricing, exports a CSV, and corrects mismatches safely.
Custom feeding calculator. We replaced a third-party widget with a fully custom calculator. Customers enter one or more dogs, unlock their feeding plan by providing an email address, and build a box of recommended products that goes straight to checkout as a 4-week subscription. Every session is tracked from email capture to completed order, and the details sync to Mailchimp for follow-up.
Quiz-to-checkout flow. Product recommendation quiz results now skip the cart, apply the right subscription and a quiz-only offer, and send customers directly to checkout. Households with more than one pet can build a combined box.
Shopping and checkout. We built a quick-add tray for the shop pages, add-to-cart without page reloads, clearer sale pricing, and a protein selector dropdown on product pages. On checkout, customers now see their annual subscription savings, and coupons apply automatically from landing pages. Mobile shoppers get sorting inside the filter tray.
Retention and rewards. We fixed points being awarded on renewals and added a referral performance tracker and a points report for the Carnos team. Subscription status and coupon activity now sync to Mailchimp for segmentation and retargeting. Customers can skip a limited number of renewals per year, and failed renewals retry automatically when a customer updates their payment method, so revenue isn’t lost.
Platform and reliability. We managed the hosting migration, fixed a background-processing stall that had stopped scheduled tasks, and resolved fatal errors in third-party plugins. All of this was built as focused, maintainable custom plugins rather than edits to the theme or core.
